Top tips

  • The question is worth 4 marks so you will need to give a detailed answer. This question is a medium level question as you have to think about what you know about the materials and apply that knowledge to a product.
  • The word ‘advantage is very important as it gives the context of how you must approach the answer
  • As the question refers to 4 different materials and is worth 4 marks might be given for an advantage outline for each of the materials listed. The question is, however, worded in such a way that it might be possible to gain marks by combining some answers e.g. referring to the nylon fabric, polycotton non iron fabric and stain resistant points under the general focus of washing and care of the uniform
  • Don’t forget the question must be answered in the context of the materials being used in a police uniform. Don’t just describe the materials that are listed.
  • Be careful not to repeat any points you make as the same answer won’t be accepted twice

Similar questions that might be asked

  • The layout of the question might vary. Each fabric might be listed with a space next to it for you to fill in. This helps you organise your thinking. Alternatively the question might be written as one sentence and you have a larger space you have to fill. This makes the question slightly harder to answer as you have to think about how you will organise your answer. You might find it useful to do a quick plan of your answer if this is how the question is written.
  • Name & describe a modern fabric different to the ones listed in the question
  • You might be asked to label a diagram showing these materials used on a product
